About us
METAC stands for Midland Energy Training and Assessment Centre and was established by Dominic Dunne in 2006 after extensive research worldwide. Specialist training in key industry areas, specifically the renewable energy, gas Industry and health and safety sectors, which is now a mandatory requirement for all who work in these sectors.
The purpose built centre involves several live and simulated facilities in order to replicate a real working environment.
Our approach to training ensures that new courses are regularly being developed and existing course are always being updated. This enables our course attendees to develop their skills and prepare them comprehensively for real-life working situations in industry.
We make sure we have only the best people designing and delivering our courses. From subject matter experts to practical trainers, our focus is on making sure the learner gets the best value and training to the highest standards.

The centre has 10 practical and 12 theory rooms. With our location in Mountrath, Co. Laois in the Irish Midlands, we’re very accessible. Our clients come from all the ‘trades’ but particularly, tradesmen plumbers, electricians, installers, and service technicians working on oil, gas and renewable energy products.
METAC is the number one energy training provider in Ireland and the UK today.
Every one of our courses is certified and guaranteed by an outside independent body and with top class assessment and examination facilities on-site, we are proud to say there is not a facility better equipped in Ireland today.
Excellent standards in training
• We provide up-to-date training on solar, biomass and heat pumps. METAC also developed heat recovery training and CHP (combined heat and power) training that are all carried out on the appliances in the centre.
• Our centre retains a multi-fuel application system with the latest control systems fitted in its centre to show how to combine solar with a gas or oil boiler or indeed biomass.
• We provide certified training on unvented cylinder installation, as Ireland is one of the few countries remaining that has no requirements for training and certification for installers in this area.
• METAC has also installed rainwater harvesting in the centre, to provide water for all heating, heat recovery and toilet needs.
• All our workshops can be isolated from water and electricity to undertake revamps and have outside access in order to change equipment in this dynamic industry.
